Foxtail Barley is sunshine's best friend. This is an idea for the mexican grass mound. While mexican grass is a reliable option, its not native. How much Foxtail barley would provide habitat is yet to be investigated.

Arctostaphylos uva-ursi is a native plant that plays host to butterflies like the Elfin (Hoary and Brown) and Freija Fritillary.
The purple prairie clover is a super food for bees.
